Driving to "Camp Drizzly" in the Siuslaw National Forest
Despite having a front-wheel drive Kia Soul, I manage to do a ton of exploratory driving on forest roads. Sometimes it's looking for the perfect dispersed campsite, and sometimes I'm simply savoring the serene scenery.
So I thought it would be fun to capture the entire drive to a recent dispersed site in the Siuslaw National Forest. It was a busy summer weekend on the Oregon Coast. Developed campgrounds were booked solid, and the beach was crowded. It was the perfect time to escape deep into the forest.
The speed-ramped video below takes you from the beginning of the windy forest road (which itself starts 4 miles off the highway) all the way to my camp, which I nicknamed "Camp Drizzly." It's roughly a 6.5 mile drive full of a lush green understory and an endless stream of moss-covered Sitka Spruce, pines, and maples.

I chose Aerosmith's "Movin' Out" as the soundtrack. Here's a slice of lyrics that hit home for me:
We all live on the edge of town
Where we all live, there isn't a soul around
People start coming
All we do is just grin
Said we've got to move out
Because the city's moving in
Nobody goes there
Nobody shows where
Nobody knows where you can find me...
