2025 has been a whirlwind of adventures, lessons, and life-changing experiences. Unfortunately, my blog is still stuck on Day 11 of my epic Oregon Coast Trail hike, so we have some serious catching up to do.

Here's an overview of what's happening in my world, and what you can expect from my content in the future!

UPDATE 1: Goodbye to Forbes and the tech industry

After nearly two decades of covering gaming and consumer tech for outlets like Forbes and PCWorld, and doing technical marketing for companies like AMD and Mozilla, I decided to walk away from the industry permanently. This is the result of months of reflection, and a growing realization that my spirit has been out of alignment for years.

If you swim in pollution, you get polluted. I finally realized that endlessly chasing headlines, dissecting tech specs, trying to stay on top of the frantic news cycles, and immersing myself in all the associated noise, toxicity, and urgency of the technology world was terrible for me.

I think it's terrible for everyone.

💡
My superpower has always been telling stories, not telling people the news. I don't want to help corporations sell more product, I want to help more people fall in love with nature.

So that's what I'm walking towards now, especially as I connect more with nature and the infinite sea of wild places around me.

I want to capture human experiences and collect memories. I want to share my love for nature with an enthusiasm that's contagious! I want to inspire people to embrace the outdoors, pursue their inner adventurer, and discover who they can become when they surround themselves with nature.

The path forward isn't crystal clear yet, but I have a rough heading and that's where I'm going next...

UPDATE 2: I finally bought a car!

My 2022 Kia Soul, photographed near the Stanislaus River.

Speaking of "going" and navigating that "sea of wild places," I finally pulled the trigger on a 2022 Kia Soul after relying mostly on public transportation for nearly three years. There are so many places to explore, so many quiet backroads and majestic mountains to discover, and hundreds of National Parks just waiting for me to adventure all over them.

For me, it has unlocked a bevy of new opportunities, and I'm planning to spend an extensive amount of time road tripping, car camping, and hiking. Hell, I've had it less than two weeks and I already have a fun little trip to tell you about!

Which brings us to...

UPDATE 3: The future of this blog, and the stuff I'm working on

If you follow me on Threads or Mastodon, you already know this. But I regret that my blog is so far behind!

I've written myself into a bit of a corner with my Oregon Coast Trail blogs. I grew so fixated on the daily format, and obsessed with my writing maintaining such a high quality bar, that each new entry took longer and longer.

I actually finished the Oregon Coast Trail in early August, logging 37 total hiking days! You haven't even read about the halfway point yet. Or the amazing Yosemite trips I had with my friends Kimber and Dean before I made my way back to Oregon for the last 200 miles. Or my climb up Mount Hoffman. Or the 48-hour camping and hiking excursion in the Emigrant Wilderness after buying my Kia Soul.

And that's a problem! I started treating this blog as more of a novel-in-progress than a true blog. I'm still writing a travelogue about my downright incredible adventure on the Oregon coast, but the format needs to get shaken up a bit. Don't worry, there is so much remaining to share with you...

The first major change to this blog is that the existing email subscriptions are going away, because I'll be changing the platform this site is hosted on. (Don't worry, the URL will be the same!)

If you're currently reading this blog via RSS, please continue to do so without interruption!

If you're currently getting these blog posts in your inbox, you'll need to come back to seasonsofjason.com periodically to read new content.

...Or to LISTEN to new content 😉

I've already written the first 4 episodes of the Seasons of Jason podcast, and outlined multiple seasons of the show. I'm in the middle of recording the debut episode, and I'm ridiculously excited about where I want to take things. The eventual goal is to effectively bring you with me on my outdoor adventures in both audio and video format, but since podcasts and I go way, way back, and I'm most comfortable with that format, that's where I'd like to start.

More about the podcast in the very near future!

In the meantime, you can expect the look of things here to undergo a minor facelift, and for my content to shorter and more frequent. I don't want you to miss out on what's happening in my crazy little world of nature adventures!

My Oregon Coast Trail narrative will absolutely continue, but it's a sprawling tale that demands and deserves some extra time in the brain oven.

Thanks for being on this journey with me, and thanks for your encouragement.

STAY TUNED!
